8011-O aluminum foil is a fully soft annealed foil material for household foil rewinding, food wrapping, flexible packaging, lamination and other converting processes that require good flexibility, foldability and thin-gauge processing performance.
The current product specification covers 0.01–0.02 mm thickness and 200–700 mm width in O temper. These 10–20 μm gauges are particularly suitable for thin flexible foil applications rather than heavier semi-rigid food-container stock.
For professional converting, buyers should specify the final application together with thickness, width, surface condition, roll configuration, pinhole requirement, cleanliness, coating or lamination process and any applicable food-contact or packaging documentation.

O temper means the foil has been annealed to a soft material condition. This provides the flexibility required for household foil rewinding, folding, wrapping, lamination and many thin flexible-packaging processes.
The listed 0.01–0.02 mm thickness range places this product within common thin packaging and household foil gauges. Material at these gauges is intended for flexible converting rather than structural or heavy semi-rigid applications.
Soft aluminum foil can conform closely around products and retain folds. This makes it useful for household rolls, catering foil, food-service wrapping and laminated flexible structures.
A continuous aluminum layer provides an effective barrier to light and very low transmission through the intact metal layer. When used in a laminate, the complete package performance also depends on foil gauge, pinholes, films, paper, adhesive, sealing layers and package construction.
Discuss Your 8011-O Foil Application
One of the principal uses for soft 8011-O foil is rewinding into household and catering rolls. Jumbo or slit foil is converted into smaller consumer or food-service rolls according to required width and roll length.
For reliable rewinding, the converter should define foil gauge, width tolerance, roll alignment, core dimensions, surface cleanliness and winding quality. Thin foil that is poorly wound can wrinkle, telescope or tear during high-speed converting.
Soft foil can be converted into products used for wrapping, covering and food-service preparation. The final product specification should reflect the destination market and actual food-contact conditions.
Stable roll shape, consistent thickness and clean slit edges help maintain production speed on rewinding equipment. Core size, outside diameter and roll weight should be specified according to the converter's machine limits.
Thin 8011-O foil can be laminated with suitable polymer films, paper and other substrates to produce flexible packaging structures for food and industrial products.
The aluminum layer supplies opacity and barrier performance, while polymer or paper layers can provide mechanical strength, printability, sealing, puncture resistance and other functions. Finished-package performance comes from the complete laminate rather than the aluminum layer alone.
Residual rolling oil, particles or contamination can reduce adhesive performance. Where lamination is required, surface cleanliness and any wettability or surface-energy requirement should be included in the purchase specification.
Pinhole control becomes increasingly important as foil gauge decreases. If barrier performance is critical, specify the inspection method, allowable pinhole size and acceptance level rather than requesting only a nominal foil thickness.
Bare aluminum foil can be printed, lacquered or coated when the surface preparation and coating system are compatible. Printing ink, primer, lacquer and curing requirements should be confirmed with the converter.
Intact aluminum foil is opaque and provides a highly effective barrier against light. It can also provide very low gas and moisture transmission through the continuous metal layer.
This does not mean every finished foil package is automatically airtight, waterproof or suitable for long shelf life. Barrier performance can be reduced by pinholes, folds, converting damage, seams, poor seals or unsuitable laminate construction.
Shelf life must be validated using the actual food or product, package structure, filling conditions, sealing process, storage temperature and distribution environment. No universal shelf-life period should be assigned to aluminum foil alone.
Bare 8011-O aluminum foil does not provide a conventional heat-sealing layer. Where a package must seal to PE, PP, PET, PS, PVC, coated paper or another substrate, an appropriate heat-seal lacquer, polymer film or adhesive system is required.
The sealing specification should identify the mating material, coating chemistry, coat weight where applicable, sealing temperature, pressure, dwell time and required seal strength.
The 8011 alloy designation and O temper alone do not establish suitability for every food-contact application. The complete supplied foil, including rolling residues, coatings, printing inks, lacquers or laminates, must match the intended conditions of use.
For food packaging, provide the destination market, food type, contact duration, storage or cooking temperature and required declarations or test documents before production.
Direct contact with highly acidic, alkaline or salty products should be evaluated for the actual exposure conditions. A suitable food-contact lacquer or laminate may be required.
Temperature suitability depends on the complete foil structure. Printing inks, adhesives, lacquers and laminated films can have lower temperature limits than the aluminum substrate and must be qualified separately.
Bare 8011-O foil has a natural metallic aluminum appearance. It is not inherently available in multiple colors.
Where red, gold, blue, printed or other decorative appearances are required, the foil must receive an appropriate coating, printing, lacquer or lamination process. Color should therefore be specified together with the required surface system.
Printed aluminum foil can carry branding, graphics, product information and decorative patterns where the ink and primer system are compatible with the foil and final package.
Colored coatings can be discussed for decorative or identification purposes. Coating flexibility, adhesion, food-contact status and heat resistance should be specified according to the end use.
Discuss Bare, Printed or Coated Foil
Aluminum foil can be classified by thickness, material condition, surface appearance and downstream processing. For purchasing, numerical dimensions and technical requirements should be used instead of relying only on broad trade terms.
Industry descriptions may refer to thicker foil, single-zero foil or double-zero foil. These terms are useful for general classification, but purchase orders should always specify the exact thickness in millimetres or micrometres.
Foil can be fully soft annealed or supplied in harder strain-hardened conditions. This page is centered on O-temper soft foil, which is selected where flexibility and converting performance are priorities.
Depending on gauge and rolling route, foil may have one bright side and one matte side or a bright appearance on both sides. Buyers should state any surface-orientation requirement that affects printing, appearance or lamination.
Foil may be supplied plain or converted through embossing, coating, printing or lamination. Each conversion changes the final product specification and should be described separately from the bare foil substrate.
The material can be rewound into household or catering foil rolls where the final gauge, roll width and applicable food-contact requirements match the intended market.
Soft foil can be used in compatible wrapping structures for bakery products, confectionery, dairy products and other foods where the material and surface system are qualified for the actual contact conditions.
The foil can be laminated with suitable polymer films or paper for pouches, wraps, sachets and other flexible packaging structures requiring an aluminum barrier layer.
The substrate can be evaluated for printing or decorative coatings when the selected ink, primer or coating system is compatible with the foil surface.
Thin foil can also be incorporated into suitable paper, film, insulation-facing or technical laminates where thickness, bonding performance and environmental requirements have been defined.
This 8011-O product should not automatically be substituted for heavier food-container foil, hard pharmaceutical lidding foil, lithium-ion battery current collector foil, capacitor foil or specialized aerospace and automotive heat-shield materials.
Those products can require different tempers, gauges, alloy chemistry, mechanical properties, electrical performance, surface cleanliness, coating systems or qualification standards.
Semi-rigid trays commonly require substantially thicker foil together with a temper selected for drawing and finished-container stiffness. A 10–20 μm soft wrapping foil should not automatically be used for deep-drawn food containers.
Pharmaceutical packaging requires application-specific cleanliness, pinhole, coating, printing and regulatory requirements. The approved package structure should determine whether O-temper 8011 is appropriate.
Battery current collectors and electronic components use tightly controlled electrical, mechanical and surface specifications. General 8011-O packaging foil should not be substituted without technical approval.
Confirm that the supplied material is the agreed 8011 alloy in O temper before releasing the roll to production.
Verify the ordered gauge within the 0.01–0.02 mm product range using the agreed thickness tolerance and sampling method.
Confirm the required width within the listed 200–700 mm range and check width tolerance against the rewinding or laminating equipment.
Check for stains, excessive rolling oil, scratches, corrosion, particles and other surface defects that could interfere with packaging or lamination.
Where barrier performance is critical, inspect pinholes according to an agreed method and acceptance level appropriate to the nominal foil gauge.
Edge damage, excessive burr and width variation can interfere with high-speed rewinding or lamination. Numerical limits should be supplied where the converter requires tight edge control.
Inspect the roll for telescoping, loose winding, edge deformation and other winding defects before installing it on converting equipment.
For a new package, coating or laminate, run representative foil through the actual rewinding, printing, coating, laminating or sealing process before approving bulk production.

Yes. It can be laminated with compatible substrates such as polymer film or paper when surface cleanliness, adhesive and curing conditions are matched to the converting process.
Bare aluminum foil is naturally silver. Other colors require printing, coating, lacquer or a compatible laminated decorative layer.
Very thin foil may have one bright side and one matte side because of the final rolling process. Surface appearance does not by itself determine food-contact suitability or barrier performance.
No. “Tin foil” is sometimes used colloquially, but modern household and packaging foil is normally aluminum rather than tin.
No. Food-contact suitability depends on the exact supplied foil, manufacturing cleanliness, any coating or laminate, food type, contact temperature and applicable destination-market requirements.
Compatibility should be evaluated for the actual product and conditions of use. A suitable food-contact coating or laminate may be required for aggressive contents.
Bare aluminum is not a conventional heat-seal layer. A compatible heat-seal lacquer, adhesive or polymer layer is required where the finished package must be sealed.
No universal shelf life can be guaranteed from the aluminum foil alone. Shelf life depends on the food or product, package structure, pinholes, seals, processing conditions and storage environment.
It is primarily positioned as thin flexible foil. Semi-rigid food containers normally require a dedicated thicker container-foil specification with the appropriate alloy, temper and forming properties.
8011 is used in some pharmaceutical packaging structures, but pharmaceutical foil must be supplied against the exact temper, gauge, pinhole, coating, printing, cleanliness and regulatory requirements of the approved package.
General 8011-O packaging foil should not be substituted for battery current collector foil. Battery applications require dedicated electrical, mechanical, surface and cleanliness specifications.
Pinhole control limits microscopic openings in thin foil. It is important where the aluminum layer is expected to provide high barrier performance.
