Color-coated aluminum coils and sheets are widely used in architectural decoration, transportation equipment, and industrial manufacturing. During long-distance sea transportation, products are easily affected by high humidity, sea salt spray, temperature differences, and condensed water inside containers. Unqualified packaging may cause common quality problems such as coating fading, peeling, aluminum substrate oxidation, surface scratches and water spots. Therefore, standardized moisture-proof and anti-rust packaging is essential to guarantee intact product delivery and maintain surface finish performance of color-coated aluminum materials.
Marine shipping environments bring three major threats to color-coated aluminum coils and sheets. First, persistent high humidity and salty sea air cause salt spray corrosion on aluminum substrates and damage the organic coating layer. Second, severe temperature differences between day and night lead to container condensation, forming invisible water films on product surfaces. Third, continuous vibration and extrusion during voyage cause packaging loosening, surface scratches and edge damage. Professional layered packaging can effectively avoid all the above risks and ensure product quality consistency after long-distance transportation.
The export packaging adopts a strict three-layer protection system: inner anti-rust moisture-proof layer, middle buffer reinforcement layer, and outer waterproof fixed layer, which fully adapts to international sea freight standards.
The inner layer is the core barrier against salt spray and moisture. Firstly, the coil surface is tightly wrapped with VCI anti-corrosion rust-proof paper. The volatile corrosion inhibitor forms a protective molecular film on the aluminum surface to isolate air, moisture and salt ions, effectively preventing substrate oxidation and coating corrosion. Secondly, the whole coil is fully wrapped with thick waterproof PE film or composite aluminum-plastic film, with all seams heat-sealed or tightly adhered to achieve a fully sealed effect and block external moisture penetration. Meanwhile, high-efficiency container desiccants are placed inside the packaging gap to absorb condensed water and residual humidity, keeping the internal environment dry for the entire shipping cycle.
To protect the color coating from mechanical damage, a layer of soft non-woven fabric or foam cushion is wrapped outside the inner waterproof film. Hard cardboard or plastic edge protectors are installed at the four edges and coil ends to prevent edge collapse, abrasion and coating peeling caused by extrusion and friction. This layer effectively buffers external pressure and friction, maintaining the flatness and integrity of the color-coated surface.
The outer layer adopts thick waterproof woven cloth or kraft paper for full wrapping and winding to enhance overall waterproof and dustproof performance. All coils are fixed on standard export wooden pallets or iron pallets. Importantly, all wooden packaging materials strictly comply with ISPM 15 (IPPC) phytosanitary standards to avoid customs detention or fumigation penalties. Multiple high-tensile steel strips are used for cross fixing to prevent coil displacement, rolling and structural loosening during sea transportation.
Qualified packaging needs to be matched with standardized container loading. All color-coated aluminum coils are placed upright and closely arranged with no gaps left to avoid shaking and collision. Anti-slip gaskets and wooden dunnage are added at the bottom of pallets to prevent sliding. A large number of container desiccants are hung inside the shipping container to reduce overall air humidity and suppress condensation generation. In addition, container doors and gaps are sealed with waterproof tape to isolate external moist sea air.
Standard export labels are pasted on the outer packaging, including product specification, coil number, coating type (PE/HDP/SMP/PVDF), gross weight, net weight, origin, and shipping marks. Obvious warning marks such as “Keep Dry”, “Handle With Care”, “No Upside Down” and “Moisture Proof” are printed to guide loading and unloading operations and reduce artificial damage risks.
Complete moisture-proof and anti-rust packaging for sea export color-coated aluminum coils and sheets relies on a systematic protection solution including VCI anti-rust treatment, fully sealed waterproof wrapping, buffer anti-scratch structure, IPPC-standard pallets and standardized container loading. This mature packaging system can effectively resist marine salt spray, high humidity and condensed water erosion, completely protect the color coating integrity and aluminum substrate performance, and ensure that products reach the destination with zero quality defects, meeting the high-standard transportation requirements of global customers.
