H14 is a strain-hardened temper that provides more rigidity than fully annealed aluminum while retaining useful forming capability. This balance is important when closure stock passes through blanking, drawing, curling, knurling or threading operations.
A bottle cap may undergo several deformation steps before it becomes a finished closure. Material strength, elongation and temper consistency should therefore remain stable from coil to coil to support repeatable cap geometry.
Bottle-cap aluminum must provide a clean and stable substrate for lacquer, color coating and compatible decoration processes. Surface contamination, rolling marks or inconsistent pretreatment can affect coating adhesion and finished appearance.
Aluminum provides low weight together with useful strength for closures, helping packaging manufacturers produce thin, formable cap shells with a consistent decorative finish.
Discuss Your Bottle Cap Specification
During deep drawing, uneven material flow can create ears around the upper edge of the cap shell. Excessive earing increases trimming waste and can affect finished cap height. Buyers producing long or deeply drawn closures should therefore specify and verify the acceptable earing level.
Stable gauge helps maintain drawing behavior, cap wall thickness, thread geometry and finished closure weight. Required thickness tolerance should be specified according to the cap tooling and production speed.
Good flatness helps material feed smoothly through coating, printing, blanking and high-speed cap-forming equipment. Edge wave, center buckle or unstable coil shape can affect registration and automatic feeding.
Closure stock should be checked for oil contamination, black lines, scratches, rolling marks, dents and embedded particles that could affect coating, printing or the appearance of finished caps.
Tensile strength, elongation and temper consistency affect blanking, drawing, curling and threading. For high-speed multi-cavity production, these properties should remain stable throughout the coil and between production batches.
For bottle caps used with beverages or food products, the lacquer system should be selected according to the exact packaged product and service conditions. Different beverages, oils, acidic products and alcohol-containing products can place different demands on the internal coating.
The buyer should specify whether the coating will contact the packaged product directly, together with the destination market, filling temperature, pasteurization or sterilization conditions and required compliance documentation.
The use of a coating described as food-contact or food-grade should be supported by documentation for the exact lacquer formulation and intended conditions of use. A general paint-performance test does not by itself establish food-contact compliance.
White epoxy lacquer can be discussed for closure applications requiring a white finished surface or suitable protective coating. The required coat weight, cure condition, chemical resistance and forming performance should be agreed before mass production.
The product side and decorative side can require different coating constructions. Buyers should identify which side will contact the packaged product and which side will be printed, colored or otherwise decorated.
The following table retains the general coating-performance data associated with the existing roller-coated aluminum product range. These values are useful as coating references but should not be interpreted as food-contact certification for a specific bottle-cap lacquer.

Closure coating must tolerate deformation together with the aluminum substrate. During drawing, curling and threading, the lacquer can experience stretching and bending that may expose weaknesses in adhesion or cure.
T-bend, impact and adhesion tests can provide useful coating references, but actual closure-forming trials should be carried out when introducing a new lacquer, thickness, cap height or tooling configuration.
After trial forming, inspect the drawn wall, upper edge, curl, thread and pilfer-band areas for coating cracking, peeling, whitening or exposed aluminum.
8011-H14 can be used as raw material for suitable Roll-On Pilfer-Proof and screw-closure constructions. These caps are typically produced through blanking and drawing before the finished closure receives knurling, thread formation and tamper-evident features.
For long or deeply drawn closures, earing and elongation become particularly important because uneven material flow increases trimming and can create inconsistent skirt height.
Provide the finished cap dimensions, drawing depth and tooling requirements when requesting material for a new closure design.

A white coated surface can be used as the finished closure appearance or as a base for compatible decoration. Where printing, logo decoration or over-varnishing is required, the surface construction should be matched to the ink and curing process used by the cap converter.
Color, gloss and coating cure should be controlled to help maintain consistent appearance across large production batches. Buyers should provide an approved color reference or physical sample for repeat branded packaging.
Printing compatibility should be validated before mass production because ink adhesion depends on the lacquer chemistry, surface treatment, cure condition and printing system.
Check coil or sheet thickness and width against the approved specification before production. Stable dimensions support consistent blank size and smooth feeding through automatic cap-making equipment.
Check for edge wave, center buckle, camber and other shape deviations that may interfere with printing, slitting or automatic feeding.
Inspect the coated surface for scratches, pinholes, stains, dirt inclusions, coating defects and contamination that could affect appearance or closure performance.
Confirm coating adhesion, cure and resistance according to the agreed lacquer specification before the material is released for cap forming.
For a new cap design or coating system, trial the material using the intended blanking and forming tools. Check cap height, earing, cracking, coating condition and final geometry before approving bulk production.
Specify whether the aluminum will be used for a screw cap, ROPP closure, lug closure, pull-ring component or another packaging part. Cap geometry determines the forming requirements.
Provide cap diameter, height, skirt length and any deep-drawing requirement. Long closures generally place greater demands on elongation and earing control.
The current listed product range is 0.22–0.50 mm. Select the actual gauge according to cap diameter, height, required rigidity and forming process.
The current product specification lists 800–1500 mm. Final master-coil or sheet width should be matched to the buyer's slitting, printing and blanking process.
State the required internal lacquer, exterior white or colored finish, coating side, film requirements and any subsequent printing or decoration process.
For food or beverage closures, identify the packaged product, destination market, filling conditions and required documentation so the appropriate coating system can be reviewed.
If the material will be printed after delivery, provide the printing and curing process so surface compatibility can be evaluated.
