Parenteral drugs, injectable solutions, surgical tools, and critical pharmaceutical formulations demand zero-microbial-contamination packaging. To achieve complete sterility, filled flexible pouches, blister packs, and lid closures must undergo rigorous high-temperature steam autoclave sterilization (121°C to 134°C under high pressure) or ethylene oxide (EtO) gas treatment. Conventional heat-seal lacquers and packaging foils frequently fail under these extreme conditions—suffering from seal layer delamination, lacquer softening, pinhole corrosion, micro-channel leakage, and loss of seal integrity, which exposes sensitive pharmaceuticals to oxygen and moisture ingress.
Engineered specifically to withstand intense thermal-moisture stress and high-pressure sterilization cycles, our Sterilization-Proof Lacquered Aluminum Foil features a specialized high-crosslinking, heat-resistant epoxy-phenolic or polypropylene-based protective coating system backed by ISO 15378 (Primary Packaging for Medicinal Products) compliance. Built on high-purity dead-soft or hard-tempered pharmaceutical-grade aluminum alloys (such as AA8011 or AA8021), this foil undergoes cleanroom continuous roller lacquering and precision thermal curing. It delivers absolute zero-permeability barrier performance, high heat-seal peel strength after autoclaving, zero coating degradation or migration during steam exposure, and superior compatibility with PVC, PVDC, PP, and PE pharmaceutical film webs.
Pharmaceutical primary packaging requires absolute structural integrity during aggressive sterilization thermal cycles. Replacing standard heat-seal foils or non-autoclavable films with our specialized Sterilization-Proof Lacquered Aluminum Foil provides distinct technical, biological, and processing advantages.
Autoclave-Immune Polymer Crosslinking: Formulated with high-density thermosetting epoxy-phenolic resins that undergo complete thermal curing, preventing lacquer softening, water-blushing, or seal layer separation under 134°C pressurized saturated steam.
Zero-Permeability Moisture & Light Isolation: Pinhole-free aluminum base matrix acts as a total physical barrier against humidity, oxygen ingress, UV rays, and microbial ingress, extending shelf life for moisture-sensitive APIs and freeze-dried biologics.
Controlled Push-Through & Peelable Seal Dynamics: Custom-engineered heat-seal lacquer formulations provide either high-burst permanent seals for retort pouches or precise, clean push-through mechanics for hard-temper PTP blister packs without foil fragmenting.
Non-Toxic & Extractable-Free Compliance: Fully compliant with global pharmacopoeia food/drug contact standards, ensuring zero release of heavy metals, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), or plasticizers during high-heat sterilization.
Cleanroom Slitting & Contamination-Free Roll Surface: Processed under Class 100,000 cleanroom environments, preventing airborne particle deposition, oil spotting, or static dust attraction prior to pharmaceutical filling.

Manufacturing pharmaceutical-grade sterilization foil requires strict atmospheric control, precise coating grammage regulation, and 100% online pinhole inspection within cleanroom facilities.
To support global pharmaceutical converters, packaging machinery manufacturers, and contract packers, we offer customized processing and cleanroom packaging capabilities:
Equipped with ultra-precise shearing equipment, we supply slit foil rolls down to 30mm widths with edge burr levels ≤ 2μm, preventing web tears during continuous high-speed blister packing.
Heat-seal lacquer formulations are tailored to match specific heat-sealing webs—including PVC, PVDC, PP, PE, and Aclar®—with adjustable heat-seal activation temperatures (140°C to 230°C).
High-precision flexographic and rotogravure printing capabilities enable 1-to-4 color pharma branding, directional text, dosage markings, and secure micro-text / UV-fluorescent anti-counterfeiting features.
Finished foil reels are wrapped in anti-static medical PE bags, vacuum-sealed with desiccant packs, secured with plastic core plugs, and suspended in shock-proof wooden crates to ensure zero transit damage.
Surgical drugs, liquid ampoules, and pre-filled syringes packaged in thermoformed trays require lidding foil that withstands terminal steam autoclaving inside the final secondary barrier.
High-barrier foil laminated pouches used for clinical nutritional feeds, IV solution additives, and active liquid formulas require extreme seal strength during pressurized heat sterilization.
Hard-temper 20-25μm lacquered foil sealed to PVC/PVDC or PE webs ensures tamper-evident, child-resistant, and moisture-proof unit-dose packaging for antibiotics and solid dosage tablets.
Medical device manufacturers utilize dead-soft 30-40μm lacquered aluminum foil laminated with Tyvek® or medical PE to create peelable, puncture-resistant pouches for sterilized surgical implants.
In combination with OPA/Alu/PVC cold-formed bottom webs, our sterilization-proof top lidding foil delivers 100% environmental isolation for highly sensitive, hygroscopic drug compounds.
Q1:Why do standard PTP blister foils fail during autoclave steam sterilization?
Standard PTP foils use low-temperature vinyl or acrylic lacquers designed only for quick thermal sealing (140°C-160°C). When subjected to 121°C-134°C saturated steam under pressure, these standard lacquers soften, absorb water, lose adhesion to the aluminum substrate, and suffer seal delamination or pinhole leakage.
Hard-temper foil (H18) has high tensile strength and low elongation, making it ideal for push-through PTP blister lidding where tablets must easily burst through the foil. Soft-temper foil (O) is highly ductile and dead-soft, making it suitable for deep-drawn pouches, medical device wraps, and peelable foil lids.
Our autoclave-resistant lacquers undergo complete thermal crosslinking during manufacturing. Finished foils are tested via Gas Chromatography (GC) to guarantee residual solvents remain well below pharmaceutical safety limits (<5 mg/m²). The cured lacquer layer acts as an inert barrier compliant with FDA 21 CFR 175.300 and EP 3.1.11.
Yes. We supply specialized PP-compatible heat-seal lacquers (applied at 6.0-10.0 g/m²) engineered specifically for high-strength sealing to PP trays and films, maintaining hermetic seals even after 121°C steam autoclaving.
Yes. In addition to high-temperature steam autoclaving, our crosslinked epoxy-phenolic and PP lacquer systems remain chemically stable without embrittlement, discoloration, or loss of seal strength when exposed to EtO gas cycles or Gamma irradiation up to 50 kGy.
